Anyone know what these things are? We've had such strange weather - unusual heat, bone dry, to rain for days, and now a cooler snap. These were in several places on the hardware cloth and then on the flat wood surfaces. A Google lens search came up with a few posts on reddit with no answers. I used a broom to clear all I could see and inspected my girls (saw nothing). Anyone??

Maybe deer fly ? Similar to horse fly in activities but eggs are different.
Nasty little buggers.
Had trouble finding out which countries they are active but Maine is def an issue.
Hope this helps

I've seen something similar on my fruit trees, and they were tree boring fly eggs. Major pests! Now whenever I see clusters like that, I assume they are pests and burn 'em.

This is basically what my pests eggs look like. When they hatch, it's a cluster of nasty larvae and they can de-leaf an entire young tree in a few days. I lost an entire stalk on my cherry tree before I found them. Easy to eliminate though, they don't spread out. Anywho, you probably have something different since it's not on a tree, but it might still be a fly.

Ah, I've always call those tent caterpillars and they do love to destroy the tree that's next to the run (maybe really called armyworms). Or could be stink bugs, also problematic here. I may give everything a good EPSP spray to be on the safe side.
