Coop Sand

Hello! I want to put sand inside the coop to help clean up poo as it’s currrently freezing to the ground and hard for me to clean it. Can anyone tell me if this sand is acceptable or upload a picture of the sand they have got from a local store (Canada) thanks ! Appreciate the help

Medium to coarse construction sand from a local landscaping supply place is the safest bet. No fine sand, play sand, masonry sand, etc.

This is a just picture from Google, but depicts how it should look.

I’m in the US, obviously can’t help with further suggestions concerning where you might locate construction sand where you are, but in general I tend do be wary of anything bagged from a big-box-type store.

Edit: I have no clue if the volcano-based mineral stuff would be harmful or not. Maybe someone else will weigh in on that.

"Inside the coop" means what exactly? You said freezing to the ground so are you talking about a run or a coop with bare ground? My coop has wood floor but initially I left a bare ground open area with sand under roost bars. It was a disaster. I completed the wood floor and installed poop boards with sand + PDZ, works great now.

I am not familiar with that product. I use all purpose sand from Home Depot, it comes in 40 lb bags, and it works great. Not dusty, and it dries out the poop. I've been using it over a year.

Whatever sand they have in bags at your home improvement store will be fine...There is also play sand for a couple dollars more.

What sand can I find on amazon (or another online store in the US) that is safe for inside the chicken coop?
This is some sand I found on Amazon but I don't know if this is ideal

PS. I also want to use sand in my chick brooder, is this sand safe?

It's a lot less dusty than the PDZ I used to use. The play sand I've used doesn't clump. I've replaced all PDZ with sand. I love it for inside the coops.
