What is the norm for stud spacing on Center when building the Wichita style coop. I plan on building this style coop but with an overall 8 by 16 foot print with a 5 by 8 coop. I have been trying to reach out to the baldessari clan in hopes of purchasing their plans to go by but have been unsuccessful in contacting them either through email or telephone. I have looked at several different coops and most appear to either be four foot on Center or three foot on Center. 2 foot on Center to me seems like a little Overkill but would help with the Rafterr spacing I'm guessing. I've searched at my local home improvement store but seems they only carry hardware cloth in two and three foot widths which I guess Narrows my options

The rafters should sit on a top plate, so I don’t think the stud spacing needs to match the rafter spacing.... unless I’m misunderstanding.

Edit: I just looked at a few pics of these coops online... and now I see how most have the rafters done.

I think 3’ would work just fine.

But I’d likely go with 2’ centers and 24” wide wire, just because the math is easier for 8x16 .... also making the coop 4x8 rather than 5x8 might help with that too... unless 5’ is required for other reasons.

Ultimately I think the difference in studs between 2’ and 3’ Center’s is really probably just 3 or 4 boards though... again unless I’m misunderstanding.

That style is a nice looking coop, have fun on the build!

The design of the Wichita cabin coop is what confuses me. That the rafters are nailed on to the sides of the studs instead of being on an actual top plate. And yes the 4-foot by 8-foot foot coop would work out better as far as using siding such as the t1-11. I was just thinking about trying to maximize the space for my birds inside the coop itself. I've also thought about the studs being the same direction as normal building would be and just using quarter inch by inch and a half wide strips to put over the wire but I don't think I've seen any of that style in any of the coop coupe builds that I have looked at. I have the block laid for the foundation but I'm still in the planning stages at this point.

Ok, I was just looking at this build (see https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/wichita-cabin-coop.47747/ )and kinda like how they did the studs placed on flat, then put the hw cloth on, then added another stud so that they ended up with sort of 4x4 posts sandwiching the wire in.

So with that I think 48” centers would work... and the 5’ coop would work out too if you did a 3’ door ( 5+4+3+4=16)

Not sure I’m helping... but I think you could do 4,3 or 2 ft centers ... which ever you decide.

Also, I have seen 48” rolls of hardware cloth around.... might have to check a farm store... maybe even have them order it.

The link you posted is where I got the idea, The designer of the coop offers plans for purchase but I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to reach them. I was hoping for a little help in understanding how it all goes together framing wise. I realize it is afterall a coop but I want it to be durable, it just looks like the nails themselves are whats holding the rafters to the studs. Doubling the 2x4 will hide the wire and help make the wall more ridged but it doesn't seem to hold the roof up any better. Maybe I am just over thinking. Any help or insight on this would be appreciated.
