Hi,
I live in Wisconsin, so yah bit cold at times in Winter.
I want to save some silkie eggs for hatching. How long can I store the eggs before before hatching? I do have a root cellar sort of, the temp would be about 40 degrees or so. It will take at least a week to get 4 to 7 eggs. There is just 3 hens and 1 rooster.
Next question.
Does any experience with the small seven egg incubator? This is a ebay link These are for sale Amazon and other places.

I do have a 48 egg incubator, but I just got a STC 1000 temperature controller because the last time I used it was having alot of problems with temp control. Maby the rheostat having problems not sure yet. Anyway I need to work on it so just looking for a small incubator, inexpensive small incubator.

Thanks

Generally eggs at 2 weeks are good to incubate. At 3 weeks, your percentage of developing does go down quite drastically, but not at zero. There was a 4H Science Project, participant that did the test to see the development percentages at 1 week,,,, 2 week,,,, and 3 week. I could find that thread but it would take me some time, since it was long ago that I read it.
Store eggs on counter-top in kitchen.

Incubator for low price will work, but don't expect great results. If you do keep a careful observation on temperature, and as long as it does not fluctuate much, will hatch your eggs. Best way would be a People thermometer to monitor temperature inside.
A simple accurate one such as this is more accurate than weather thermometers.
