Went to grab eggs tonight and found this cracked egg. Obviously it isn’t cracked all the way but I’m on edge a bit because i know that when an egg cracks inside a chicken it isn’t a good sign… I wanted to know if you think my girl who laid this will be okay and what can I give them to prevent it? There wasnt anything on the outside as far as what’s inside of the egg…

They get grit and oyster shells in their feed. Anything to add?

It has been cold here and rainy if that makes a difference…

It could be from the egg "binding" inside her. Was this egg a bit larger than usual? I'd watch closely for her next few eggs to see if this continues as if ever any pieces of shells break off inside of her, an infection could start, peritonitis.

There's not much you can do now except just be sure there's always oyster shell available. I'd put a vitamin supplement in their water too a couple of times a week for a while. That'll just give her/them a boost in case there's something lacking for some reason.

If this is a one time thing, I'd not worry at all.
The most likely scenario is that is got cracked in the nest, not inside the chicken...so no dietary or supplements needed.
Take a look at your nest bedding, make sure it's thick enough to cover the nest box bottom. Another egg could have landed on top of it.

When you opened the egg to eat, was most the shell good and thick?

+1 on checking the depth of the bedding! That’s been the cause of every cracked egg I’ve found. The girls will move it around and it can get thin pretty quick.

sometimes this can happen when the eggs are laid and fall into the nesting box. the best thing you can do for now is keep an eye on them and make sure no one's lethargic : )
Thank you. They choose to lay under the nesting box attached to the coop outside haha I’ve tried the hardest to accommodate for them but they’re against it 😅🤣
