Critically endangered chicken breed?

I was recently looking at some old breeds I used to own for a video I was making and I remembered my old rooster “shaggy” who was a sultan, and when I looked up that breed I found multiple websites saying that this breed was now considered critically endangered?? I’m not sure if this is true or not but I find this crazy, when I got him I didn’t think about rarity or anything so now that I’m finding this out it’s kinda weird. Apparently there’s less than 1000 left but I’m not exactly sure if this is true, I just found this out on a few websites. Anyone else with a similar experience? And is this true?

Many hatcheries sell sultans and there are a ton of them sold, but I think those websites are meaning sultans that have known lineage and are being bred to standard (I’m just guessing and throwing my idea out there, don’t quote me). They are definitely a breed that’s losing it’s popularity and is being overshadowed.

Hatcheries do not usually sell chicks that are being bred to standard.
