Crocheters Thread

I am completely new to crocheting and just got my first kit! It's a classic bird pattern, haha. I'm very excited to start. :jumpy: I know the very basics of knitting but that's it. I'm hoping this won't be too complicated. The pattern did say 'beginner'. Does anyone have any tips or advice? Should I do some practice stuff before jumping into the bird project? o:

Probably single crochet, and if it's a stuff animal I would look up tutorials on the magic ring/circle

Before diving into the pattern maybe you should practice on a small square. You can start the square with sc and change over to dc for a few rows then back to sc. Doing a test square you will also get used to your tension and how to turn your work...

There is plenty of tutorials on the web some in the form of video and some in print. I do Afghans, throw and tapestry, I might be able to help if you get stuck on something. Good luck....

I would also suggest practicing with some spare yarn first! For me, it was tricky to figure out the stitches and how to use the hook. Once I figured it out, it’s incredibly fun and addictive!! Just don’t give up when you’re in that stretch of not knowing how to do the stitches! :)

I’m working on this granny stitch dress! I just have half of the squares to do, then seaming and weaving!! A lot of work left but the two side panels are the biggest and it feels great to have those done.

I decided to do mine in a charcoal gray yarn! But I think for my daughters I’ll make some fun colored dresses. This designer has the same dresses in kid sizes!!
I finished the dress! I think it would be more fun in a vibrant color but at least it’s timeless and versatile in black!!
