Crop bra not working. Anything else to do for extremely pendulous crop?

I’m sorry about Truffles. It’s never an easy decision to make. We decided it was time to let Mole go when she was losing weight and also cut herself by kicking the crop. The skin had become stretched so thin. Those 2 factors drove our decision.

My understanding is that if you do get a crop bra that works for her, she’ll have to wear it forever. I think once a crop gets this pendulous, it won’t spring back.

Have you tried the crop cocktail of cayenne, cinnamon, and ginger mixed with lemon juice? It’s on a thread here somewhere. It didn’t work for Molé, but it has helped other crops. I also had good luck with ACS with another hen who’d had long-term crop issues (but wasn’t pendulous). If you’re looking for more advice, you should start your own thread.

Chickens do bond deeply, but they’re also adaptable. I think your other hen will be fine if you have to say goodbye to Truffle. As long as she has other hens to keep her company.

I wish I had something more helpful or hopeful to say. She’s a beautiful girl.
Also I have not tried the crop cocktail, but I'll look it up. I know nothing has worked so far, but like I said before, I'm willing to fight a little more for her! Thanks again for sharing!

🤞Hopefully the Reglan or crop cocktail are helpful for your hen. Keep us posted.
Thank you! I’m going to post this on my other thread I started but just to let you know and for anyone else who may stumble across this thread too…so we are still not out of the woods yet but Triffles’ crop has been smaller this past week!

So as I had mentioned we have been to the vet three times, had flushes done, used medistatin/nystatin, monistat etc, with no luck. We’ve already spent more money than we probably should have, but I didn’t want to completely give up if she hadn’t given up yet. So this past week we’ve been mixing plain yogurt with some scrambled eggs and mixing digestive enzymes with some black seed oil in there. My mom is a heath nut and she said we should try the black seed oil. We have been feeding it to her twice a day. We’ve been separating her with her best friend peanut butter (so she’s note lonely) at night and putting them in our brooder room, then they join the flock again during the day. The reason we put her in the brooder is because there is nowhere for her to rooster there at night so she lays on the ground which pushes her crop up. The last 3 days her crop has been soooo much smaller! I almost wanted to cry! She’s still thinner than I’d like but shes seems to be getting more food though. I can still smell that sour smell from her mouth so we started her medistatin again, but this has been a huge improvement! From Dec until this past week we have not been about to shrink her crop at all! It has been this huge water balloon and now it’s at least half the size it was! Hoping we are moving in the right direction! I’m still watching closely as she’s not 100% better but I’m more optimistic now!

We are still in the process of making the crop bra so we will be working with her to wear that too!

That’s great news! I hope it keeps going down for you!
