Culling... To eat or not to eat? the bigger picture...

Hi and thanks for the encouragement, lauralou . i totally agree that i would have no probs taking care of mean roosters. your method of opperandi is pretty much what i am striving to atain. It makes total sense to me. For now my flock is no where near large enough to worry about culls, every bird at this point is important and even the loss of that one peep was felt... probably more by me and the other peep then the others but still it's a loss. i enjoyed his coloring as he was probably a red and he was sweet. i miss him but i know others are out there. In the mean time i have an adorable roo that hasn't pecked me once, and i have no plans to replace him anytime soon. i think he has trouble mating the big hen though and thats a problem as i would like to get some hatches and kinda need firtle eggs to do it. i might give one of those silly looking mating apron/harness thingies a try but it is kinda fun to watch now. after about 7 seconds the poor guy just gives up and jumps off. and of course watching the hens afterwards is a hoot. now i know where the term, "get your feathers ruffled" comes from... LOL

I wonder what the cross will look like with a dark silky roo and a dark sex link mom?
