Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

All good here, Kelsey. How are you doing?
That’s good!!!!! I’m pretty good right now, thanks. But the face pain comes and goes. At times it’s zero, other times it’s mid level (about 3-5 out of 10), still other times it is literally an 8-9 or possibly even 10 out of 10 and I feel like crying. Actually DID cry this morning LOL so yeah. I am really hoping I can figure it out soon. But in the meantime, I am living life and right now, I am making French toast LOL so yeah.

Yes it is thank you. I've been out all morning. Our Buff Orpington was very restless and vocal, pacing around and seemed upset. I let them out to free range - a little later than normal but not excessively - she was still very vocal and was running all around behind plants and places along the house where she usually doesn't go. She kept hugging the house running back and forth like she was going to miss the big sale. I decided perhaps it's egg time since she's been squatting for 12 days. I picked her up and took her back to the coop, placed her in the nest and told her 'this is where you lay your egg'. Closed the door and waited with high anticipation, like awaiting the news of a new child birth. After an hour, I decided to check on her. She cooed at me and I tried to lift her up to check for an egg but she was not having it. I pushed my hand underneath her to feel for an egg. Alas! Our first one since April, 2024! I took the egg and forced her out of the nest. I was surprised by how warm, almost hot, the egg was when I removed it. She is apparently broody and not very happy with me. :(
A very pale shade of beige.

I love Buff Orpingtons. They have the best personalities, and they do get broody. Do you have a rooster? I let my girls sit on eggs. I want them to supply the future chicks.

Last year's rooster, Cooper, was not mating the breeding age hens, but tended toward the old ladies. So he is now in the bachelor pad and we have Ralphie in with the girls. Hopefully we'll have a broody or two and get some new chicks that I don't have to raise! I love it when it works like that.

Glad your girl laid her egg. It's beautiful.
