Custom game bird feed ingredients

Hi, my local grain mill agreed to formulate a game bird feed, for turkeys, ducks, pheasant and quail. I suggested it needed to be at least 20% protein, 3% calcium (for quail), and extra niacin for ducks. He wanted to know the corn/soy ratio. I sent him the Purina ingredients but not sure if he got them. Any other tips as to how to formulate this?

I would not use that site as a reference. I won't feed less than 28% protein to poults. It does not show any of the concentrations for the needed essentials such as lysine, methionine or niacin.

Their recommendation of 26% protein for poults is what companies that are more interested in their profit line than the health of your poults have gone to.

If people use the proper feed in the first place, there is no need for anything else.

I use a 28% turkey/gamebird starter for all my turkeys and gamebirds, and switch to a 24% turkey/gamebird grower after that. Protein % is only part of the extra needs of turkeys and gamebirds, as higher Methionine and Lysine levels are needed also.The 24% grower is on the high end, as I do a lot of breeding and hatching and have better results with health, hatching and hatchlings.
