I read somewhere that this mix creates black sex links, but haven’t been able to find any other information about them. I’ve started hatching eggs recently from my flock and the third “bsl” hatched this morning, they’ve all come out black with patterns and feathered legs, however this third one doesn’t have a white spot on its head. I had assumed from what information I’ve been able to find the the bsl Roos will have white patterns and the hens will be completely black, but 3 roosters of this specific breed in a row is making me doubt, plus I really want hens as we are not keeping any roosters. So my question is does the dark brahma roo over barred rock mix 100% create a sex link? And if so do you determine the gender from whether or not it has white patterns or is it the white spot on their head specifically that marks them as a roo?

Yes, it will. At hatch the males will have a light dot on their head. When they grow out the males will be barred, which is the stripey pattern you see in your barred Plymouth rock. The females will not be barred.
So the females will still have white on them as chicks just no white dot on their head?

but 3 roosters of this specific breed in a row is making me doubt,
Dark Brahma roosters aren't solid dark colored on their heads at all.. I agree and don't think this specific cross will work well for sex linked chicks.

White spots on the head as chicks indicate barring. Dark brahmas are not barred, and do not have white spots on their head as chicks.
