Hi everyone! I’ve got some day old Barred Plymouth Rock chicks that I’m wondering how to tell the sex. ( They are usually sex-links right?)
Here are the three of them. Any ideas?

This first one has no white spots.

This second one just has a tiny circle.

And the third one has like three small splotches.

Does the color of the beak and legs have anything to do with the sex? Because look here.

Below is the first chicks beak and legs.

Below is the second chicks beak and legs.

And below is the last chicks beak and legs.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi! That first picture you uploaded doesn't look like a Plymouth Barred Rock at all.

The 2nd one is most likely a pullet and the 3rd could go either way.

As for your question about leg color, it's often that the females will have a dark wash on the front of their yellow legs and the males will just be yellow. It's not a foolproof method but it can indicate sex for this breed. It's impossible to tell leg color from your pictures with that red light, though.

Oh thanks! Hmm I guess the first one could also either be an Australorp or a barred rock too. Sorry about the lighting. Here are some better pictures of the legs without the light.

Yes that 1st one is definitely not a Barred Rock.

2nd and 3rd have some dark wash. I'd just keep an eye on #3. Once their feathers start coming in, it will be clearer. Male Plymouth Barred Rocks will have double white barring so they will appear lighter.

Ok thanks so much!! Also the 3rd has white tips on its wings not sure if that means anything.
