Hey everyone! So I hatched out some shipped eggs, and there 3 chicks from the batch that are black and/or white. The seller of the eggs listed the possible breed that could hatch. Here are the possible breeds of these chicks, Black Australorp, Barred Rock, Barred Plymouth Rock, Sussex, and Cuckoo Maran. These guys are now 1 week old, what breeds and sex are we thinking? (If you can tell yet)

I am far from expert, but I want to put my opinion out there and then follow up in a month of two lol
1. Male barred rock
2. Looks like my black sex-links but that wasn't an option listed so I'm going to say black australorp?(but my black australorp had a white belly when she was a chick so I'm a little stumped on this one)
3. Female barred rock

Your two barred ones are either barred rock or cuckoo Marans. I'm leaning Marans just because their barring is a little messy, which is typical of Marans. Marans will also have pink instead of yellow feet, but with no comparison it can be hard to tell.

Out of the breeds listed, the black one would have to be Australorp, but it doesn't look quite right.

Thank you guys! I will update in about 2 weeks!

Marans shouldn't have yellow legs, so I'm going with barred rock for the first and third chick. Barred rocks are not a truely autosexing breed, so I think all these chicks are far too young for guessing male vs female with any accuracy. The black one would have to be australorp, assuming these are purebred and not a mix of the possible breeds, but it looks like the bottom of the feet are yellow and not the pink/white they should be.

Are the breeds you mentioned all together or separated into breeding pens? Seems odd to say barred rock and Plymouth barred rock as that is the same breed. My guess is together. Middle chick appears mixed. The others could be as well.

I’m not sure… I ordered these, and I just listed the breeds that the seller told me.

Hey again! I know I said that I would update in about 2 weeks, but I don’t see the harm in updating each week, so here I am! 😝☺️

They are now 2 weeks old!

Our 2 australorp looked like the little black one at two weeks but had some white on them. The other two look like our barred rock chicks did at two weeks.
