Hatching

This is my 2nd attempt at incubating in my new large top hatch incubator. First attempt was in my classroom but unsuccessful. I think it was due to not being able to regulate classroom temperature plus my rooster was new and young...
Now trying again at home. I'm down to 10 chicken eggs: Rhode Islands, Bared Rocks, Americanas. I've candled a few times over the past 23 days with a bright flashlight. Only 2 green eggs are solid; several others have some dark spots w/veins but are sloshy( I was going to remove those); others have more dark spots with veins and with air pocket at wide end but not sloshy.
I'm not sure if I should toss all but the solid green eggs.

Also, can I place new batch of eggs in with the current eggs and hand turn them until current eggs hatch?

Thanks for any advice and suggestions.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Please describe make and model of your incubator, is it circulated or still air? Are your vents open? Pics are nice. Maybe even the candled eggs you're still wondering about?

Also describe your incubation temperature and humidity and how these were measured.. built in read outs or other calibrated thermometer/hygrometer?

Day 23 is getting pretty late, though still possible. I agree that sloshy doesn't sound good.

How long have you been collecting the eggs you're hoping to set for already? Up to a week is usually a very good amount of time. Storage conditions matter some though. 10-14 days usually still sees quite decent results in my experience.

You could do as you have considered without much issue, but I'd recommend waiting and start the new eggs on their own once this mess is cleaned up.. and work on getting it dialed in before adding more chaos. Hatching is messy business if any still are going to.

I got my highest hatch rates hand turning. Did you witness your turner working?

Are your layers also new and young like the rooster? Or how long have they been laying for?

Thanks for the quick reply.
It's a Brower (sp?) Top Hatch. Circulated air, vents are open, auto rotates, candelabra light bub, large water area to keep hydrated,
a digital hydrometer/thermometer readout, 99deg F at 50% humidity.

Eggs were older than a week when I placed. Those have been tossed. I did keep 3 green ones that were solid. I'll keep for few more days.

I added 12 new eggs today(sadly no green eggs) only a week old and they should be fertilized from what I've witnessed. I've only 5 hens and 1 roo. However, my Americana is about 4 yrs old and I'm lucky if she lays once a week. She is so friendly; I just love her.
I"m looking forward to see what my young Wyandotte eggs look like when she begins to lay. She is beautiful. She's a gold-laced-brown and black.
