Dead chicken egg bound or vent injury?

I have a dead silver Wyandott.
She died suddenly. She was in nesting box for awhile, I’m not sure how long.
I inspected her vent. It’s red and swollen, also there was a lesion on the side right inside the vent. She had an egg about a 1/4 way up the vent. But it’s possible my Mallard drake tried to mount her. He attacks the hens often. I’ll post a picture.

She may have been injured by the drake causing problems in her reproductive tract. I would immediately remove him from the flock. Drakes have penises - roosters do not. Drakes breeding chicken hens can cause serious problems/deaths.

I agree. I know this about the drakes. I should never have gotten ducks.
