Must be! I wish I knew which hen that was but I don't hatch those out anymore since penning up the fancy ones. Hopefully, yours is a hen.
I wish some one still made trap nests so that eggs could be assigned to a hen and then the chicks assigned to a hen. If only one rooster was with the hens it would be a lot easier to find breeders with those recessive genes.
 
Trap nesting was popular back in the 50's and 60's to identify hens that laid the most eggs in a breed in order to develop a proprietary strain of what were advertised to be superior. I'm not sure they are if they die quicker and have more health issues but weeding out for traits not wanted such as the single combs I'd surely do it to separate those breeders into a flock for other purposes. I've seen some cobbled up builds for trap nests on YouTube that look to be cumbersome. Maybe this is a future project to undertake as a trap next and rollout next combined.
