Deter rodents humanely

There's a device that I have seen on TV. It emits light like a strobe light would and it also has a ultrasonic noise it makes. They are expensive but they have just made one that is available to be placed outside. I will look up the website again and post it. The device is mouse blocker. As I said they are expensive.

The reports I've seen from actual customers say they did nothing.

Ah, needed to add to this. Not enough to just state an opinion. Here is decent article with an actual scientific study with a PDF format buried in a link near the bottom third of the article.https://www.mcgill.ca/oss/article/technology-you-asked/are-ultrasonic-pest-repellers-effective

The result was the test was inconclusive and the study recommended not to waste money on the devices.

Google AI came back with more results. Search Google using these key words then hit the AI assist link. ultrasonic rodent repeller studies

There was a Bangladesh study and a Chinese study that reported favorable results but I'd doubt they were peer reviewed or were up to scientific standards.

Cats do nothing for rats and very little for mice. However cats are really great at decimating songbird populations. I got an "experienced barn cat" from someone years ago and after a year of watching it do nothing but torture songbirds to death I re-homed the cat

Since then I've learned that there are studies out there showing that cats do not effect rat populations at all
Yes you would need a lot of cats to *kill* all the mice. But you could have the laziest cat that never caught anything deter mice from taking over, simply because of the presence of a cat makes it not such a great place for mice. Peppermint oil and snakes and mouse traps and poison won’t get them all either. Plus cats are more fun to have around than glue traps.

And I assume that everyone who is Team Song Bird is doing their part to TNR feral cats, right? To help reduce the stray cat population? If you’re not trapping/fixing, fostering, volunteering and/or donating to the effort in your community, then you’re just anti-cat, not pro songbird.

The presence of a cat simply makes rats quieter. They'll still come around and do everything as normal, just quieter. I've watched it myself on many occasions

Yes, rodents are a natural part of a healthy ecosystem. They should exist in a balanced state without causing a nuisance

Feeding songbirds is pro songbird

It's also pro-cat!

The original poster was only on site the day they signed up. They haven't been back in a week and a half. Just saying.
This thread is ours now! and you have to realize mice caused a plague. They also like bedding and nooks to live and scurry about regardless of food which they'll find anyway because they eat a lot of things. Snap traps are probably the most humane because it's in the high 90% range of instant death.

I have cats, snakes, and still have a garage that I'm catching about 2 to 6 mice every other day because they like the hidding places to sleep and build nests.
