I have a duck that injured her leg Sunday. I got home late last night and it was dark out when I went to lock the ducks up. All of them came running in except one which was still in the pond. She jumped out and came over using her wing and god leg to get to their cage. I picked her up and couldn't see or feel any injury but it was dark. She wanted to eat with the others and didn't seem to be being picked on so I let her go up with the rest of the ducks.
This morning when I let them out and it was daylight I felt all over her leg and breast and didn't feel any breaks or see any wounds. She can't move that leg at all but it is still warm and I can bend it all over. It felt kind of like she may have dislocated it but I don't know what I am feeling for.
My question is what can I do for her? I have not isolated her because I would have to keep her on dry land and that is hard for her to get around on. We have a large acre pond that she likes to be on so I left her out with the other ducks on the water. I had a brief problem this morning with all the males wanting to mate her in the pond this morning but I just held her while they did their morning "thing" with the other girls and then let her in and they left her alone for the most part.
She is a 2 or 3 year old Crested Cayuga female and lives with 3 other girls and 3 drakes. There is no trauma or swelling to the leg or the rest of her body. She just can't move it at all on her own. I need to know what to do to help her, if there isn't much and she won't live a very good life on one leg I will have to put her down and I don't want to do that.
