Hi, wondering if anyone knows whether I can use the water from my dehumidifier in the incubator?

I have just bought a new incubator and the instructions say I should use distilled water. I have plenty of water that collects in the dehumidifier bucket.

Or is there another quick way to produce distilled water at home?

I use tap water. (Well water) I have never used distilled water. :)

Our tap water isn't from a well so won't be as clean as yours and has high levels of limescale so im trying to use as clean water as possible so it doesn't affect the running of the incubator

Are you kidding?? Our well sucks. I won't even drink it. lol I buy water to drink. If you leave the tap water in a jug, the jug will discolor. (The water itself runs clear, but who knows what is in it.

Dehumidifier water is not a choice that I would consider. It's a breeding ground for bacteria. Better with tap water. My water is also very... strong. Lots of Iron and manganese. If you're concerned about using tap water, you can just buy a gallon of filtered water to use. Distilled water, while recommended is a first choice, but I highly doubt that many folks use it in their incubators.

Water from a dehumidifier can likely have traces of toxic metal from the coil of the dehumidifier. I would not use it. I buy bottled distilled water to use in my incubator. Many incubators that have automatic humidity control require distilled water. Even if your incubator doesn't require distilled water it will make cleaning your incubator much easier since you won't have deposits left from evaporated un-distilled water.

Just use tap water. If you are concern about bacteria, boil and let it cool down before add to the incubator. I also like to add warm water around 90-105F so won't cause the temperature to fluctuate that much.

If you have very "hard" water it is not wise to use it in any appliances. You could probably use the condensed water from your humidifier but if you are worried about pollutants or scale from your tap water, you might try filtering it.

I filter mine with a "Brita" filter that you can buy for under 10 dollars. I also boil the water that I put in my incubator and I add copper pennies. The copper pennies are antibacterial and after my incubation is done the water in the troughs is as clear as when I put it in. Btw pennies dated before 1985 apparently have more copper in them than later dates.

Y’all guys think i can use the baby distilled water? It has added minerals for taste but I don’t think it’s worse the tap water or bottled water right?

The minerals are going to be what is left behind after the water evaporates. If you can get in there to clean where the water sits, then it should be fine.
