DIY Goat Stall

Hey guys, just thought I'd share my idea on my DIY goat stall i did last weekend for my 2 nigerian doelings. It is an 8 x 6 stall, fit in the corner of my barn, with field fencing stapled to wood boards. Hopefully this will serve as an inspiration to anyone trying to create something similar( I sure wish i had a guide before i started mine, lol), or if not, just enjoy the pics

First thing i did was I mounted U channel brackets against the walls. I decided to do 3 of them. 2 x 4s of course


I then laid down 2 4x6 rubber stall mats for hoof protection(this also helped as a measurement guide)


(Didn't get too many pics documenting this process)After that I drilled a hole about 2" into the concrete, maybe 1/2" in diameter. Then I bolted a 4x4 bracket to the floor with a lock washer. Then I inserted the 4x4 into the bracket, took a little hammering with a rubber mallet, nice and snug.

I also bolted the 4x4 to an above rafter for extra security.




Did the same for the other 4x4


Starting to come together


Then I mounted the same U Channel brackets on the 4x4s and ran the 2x4s through the brackets








After that was complete then I secured the 2x4s into the brackets so they wouldn't just be resting


Field fencing was then stapled to the boards going across






Finally, I added the gate I had made earlier by stapling the fencing to a wood frame

Thank you very much! We are actually getting them today so I am really excited for that! We finished the stall maybe 9:00 last Sunday night so we didn't have another thing to do throughout the week.

I don't have pictures of them to post right now but we have a total of 6, the 3 adults and 3 kids that are now a bit over 2 weeks old. The adult male is Spanish, one female is a pygmy, and the other female is 1/2 pygmy & 1/2 Alpine. The pygmy female had twins (2 girls) and the other female had a boy.

Those little ones are so much fun and a joy to watch. The little male is sort of "my" goat and he thinks I'm his 2nd mom. He's decided that my lap is a comfy napping spot which is cute now, not sure how cute it will be once he's bigger.

Their little horns are just beginning to become visible (little nubs barely covered by hair right now. And talk about agile, wow. They can run, jump and climb like you wouldn't believe.

You'll have to keep us posted on your goats. Hope you enjoy them as much as we do ours.

Wow! You've got quite a herd there. We're only getting two. I would like more, but the space, labor, and time we can afford to give them only suits two. Plus, they are outrageously expensive! The ones Im getting are 10 weeks old. They're still pretty small. Very energetic. I plan on building them a play place something like this: http://www.doubledurangofarm.com/id16.html

Hi waddles, I looked over the website you posted a link to. Wow, those goats have it made there at Double Durango. Is that where you're getting your goats?

The play place is great and I bet the goats would enjoy it a lot. We've built a ramp/bridge and another smaller bridge for ours (nothing fancy, just made of things laying around). Their favorite spot is a huge oak tree that had fallen way before we got here. The diameter is probably 3 1/2' around at the base and is probably 30' long and it has a nice incline to it...those kids love running up & down.

Have fun with your new goats! And be forewarned...goat math happens just like chicken math!

I got the goats from a small farm in hope nj called Aisling Farm http://www.aislingfarmgoats.com . They have a nice operation going on there, they have pygoras, nigerians, as well as horses and chickens. Im thinking of going off of one of DD's designs though. Simple to build, yet fun for the goats. That oak tree sounds fun! Lets just hope it doesn't happen to me and crush all my fencing!!
I just got them at 3:00 this afternoon and they have finally quieted down for the night(thankfully). Hopefuly the noise will stop soon!

As for noise...most of ours are pretty quiet except one, the female that's 1/2 pygmy and 1/2 Alpine. She bawls when she's hungry, when she's bored, when she thinks one of the others is getting something she isn't and when she thinks she has lost her baby (she never has but she's new to being a mom). She even calls out when she hears our porch door close because she knows we're coming outside. This morning I was sitting on the porch and coughed, she started yelling! Quite the talker she is.

That's reassuring. I can't really be out there 24/7 keeping them company. They only time they keep quiet is when humans are out there too. Hopefully they will be a little more quiet when I have to leave on Monday. I live on a half acre lot veeeery close to neighbors, and they use their back porch a lot. I want them to keep quiet without me being there. My goal is by next Saturday I can have them not crying at all. These goats are very vocal but I think that isn't their natural personality, they are just stressed. I haven't gotten around to pics because of all the fuss over them, but I promise some pics for you tommorrow!
