To start off, I do not have a tractor, yet. I have recently burned a few patches of kudzu on my property and I really thought I had won the fight. I was able to clear the areas, but the kudzu started sprouting up and it became clear that I need to remove ALL of the vines and roots. I can do it by hand, but having a full time job and only having the weekends to dedicate to this, I needed something quicker.
I looked around inline for DIY harrows and things I can use to pull up roots at the dirts surface and I came up with a plan.
This idea can obviously be expanded on so feel free to comment with ideas and let me know if it helps you.
I started out with a railroad tie and cut it in half. I am putting lag hooks in the ends that chains will be hooked to and drag it behind my truck. I am putting lag bolts in the bottom trailing edge of the tie to do the digging. I am building this today so more pictures to follow. This is what I am starting with.

Ok. So here are the pictures in steps. It’s very crude but here are the pros and cons.
Pros:
-It’s light enough that my lawn mower can pull it.
-it does grab a lot of the surface level roots and branches.
-With getting the RR tie for free, it had cost me a grand total of $10. And that’s also rounding up.

Cons:
-Because of how light weight it is, it doesn’t get much of any ground penetration.
-I have to stop periodically, roll it and clean it, or it will get a bit clogged and work less.
-the 2x6 “sleds” I added are digging into uneven ground causing it to roll here and there.
It worked well enough for 10$ and 2 hours building it. But definitely can be improved. Longer lag bolts for start. And I have to rethink the sleds.
