DNA testing for dogs?

What DNA tests does everyone recommend for dogs? I have been wondering for years if my husky Finn is mixed with malamute. He is at the vet all day today for his dental appointment so the noticeable lack of his presence and his constant talking has me thinking about this more than usual😂 His body shape more of resembles a malamute is broadness and thickness. From what I understand malamutes and huskies both came from the same lines originally, but were bred in two separate directions when brought to America? Even as a puppy Finn was twice as broad in the shoulders compared to other husky pups. His tail is double the size of a husky, his undercoat is so thick it’s like oily sheep’s wool and when he sheds it in the spring he looks like he lost 20lbs over night. I am not exaggerating when I say that it takes inches off of his sides and I have to adjust his harness considerably in the spring and winter to accommodate his coat. A cousin brought their husky over and Finn practically towered over him.

I used Embark and have nothing bad to say. The testing came quick and they had actually lost the first test and sent out another one. Well later that day the test arrived at the testing facility, and within a week and a half we had the results.

Finn is a beautiful boy

Finn looks part wolf!

I compared reviews of Embark and Wisdom Panel and ultimately decided on Embark. Wisdom Panel is cheaper but also seems to be less accurate. One BYC member said WP actually changed her dog's breed ancestry after she got the initial results. Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.. 🤔

I have used both. I think Embark is more accurate, but I take them both with a grain of salt. One reason I think embark is better, is that they also gave me what they called a traits analysis, (physical traits) stated like this dog is more or less likely to have this trait. They were correct on all counts for my little mutt. Color, length of coat, etc. He is also named Finn! I will be amazed if your boy does not have malamute in him.

I also loved embark because of the traits analysis. Tucker was only a puppy when we tested him and its 100% accurate for his fur length and color.
