I never saw a chipmunk in the run until last night. Do they eat chick pellets or was he eating the leftover scratch do ya think? I wonder if I need to ration out daily portions now......chipmunks came out of hibernation last week. I can't afford to feed them layer pellets all summer! Maybe some tighter mesh along the bottom? I know rats eat the food but what about chipmunks?

sorry to say i dont think mesh at the bottom would help with your problem. they can climb and dig so if they want in tot he food they will find a way!

they might even chew thru the mesh and make a hole. i would think they are after the scratch but they might eat anything if they like it or its easy to get. i would say try setting a small trap and letting it go somewhere else away from your house.

So I guess I have to train my kids (and dh) to put the feeder in a metal barrel. I leave for work before the flock goes nighty night!

catch and release?? chipmunk.. at least 5 miles away!!!!

you need that black rat snake,, from the snake thread.. it will eat all the chipmunks.. and rats.. maybe even the bunnies.. and chihuahuas

Actually I have my killer kitty whose cerfew is 3 in the afternoon when we can due to the loss of 2 other cats. I just saw him outside eating something...might be that chipmunk. He brought me a couple of moles the other day. thankfully already dead. I hate the halfsy's he brings me. "Look ma, still enough life left in it to play red light green light!!" UCK! He's the kind of cat that's out all day and comes in to use the litter box! Big dope.....He's terrified of my chickens now that they are his size or bigger. Still would never put him near baby chicks---he'd risk injury from the roos just to have a new toy to play with (torture--mame--kill)
