Do Maran eggs take longer to hatch

We have 6 Maran eggs in the incubator and 2 of them pipped yesterday afternoon. They both are moving and peeping they are just slow about hatcning. The Cochin took about 2 hours from pip to hatch. Is this normal for Marans?

I also have had that problem. I just hatched Marans also. They started pipping on day 19. I think what the problem is, that the shells are dark and think. The more water we add during hatch, to less that evaporates from the egg, causing the chick to be bigger and having a hard time turning during zipping. I had 5 hatch on their on and 2 that ( actually 3 I had on lavender Ameruacana stuck also) I had to help due to no progress, I normally don't help but I just couldn't synergy by and watch them die. I check 2 others and they were pipped and dead. I am happy I got all I did . It is the best Marans hatch I've had. I tried an experiment, and had I not have my lock down day wrong it probably would have gone better. All my problems started when I went to lock down and found one Ameraucana hatched in turner and 3 others pipped. I had to open the incubator to remove turner and let in to much air. 2 of 3 hatched on their own 1 I helped, good thing too, shell was stuck so bad it was like monkey glue. His watch them, they do take a little longer. What day are you on? Are they your eggs or shipped? I wish you luck. Michele

They are my own eggs and the first time I have tried Marans. We are on day 21 and 8 others have already hatched. They are of all different breeds.

Can you see their beak? I have heard of some that file softly at the shell enough to remove color then sanitatize them with a solution. I have only hatched shipped Marans. But now I think I'm on my way.

Hi hun, my marans started to pip at 21 days, the first one to pip at day 21 was the last to hatch on day 23 lol... I have 8 tht are 4 weeks old, noisy & smelly good luck xxxx

I love the sweet sound of Marans chicks. When they are happy they just make the sweetest sound.
