I just had to share this. I'm sure someone else can relate. I went out this morning to collect my 1 daily egg. (I still have only one hen laying out of 8). Anyway, I got the egg and realized they needed more water and food. SO, I decided to put the egg in my pocket while I filled the waterer and then would take the egg in the house. I was able to get in the coop and get the water filled and even had the scoop ready to fill the food bin when one of the ladies decided she wanted to peck at the door area and get a little snack out of the run. I leaned on the door so I wouldn't trip over her and to get her back inside when my hip hits the door and then I hear CRACK!

Needless to say, my leg and pocket start to feel rather wet, so lesson learned. Don't put eggs in your pocket! Otherwise you will have to eat scrambled eggs for breakfast whether you want them or not.

You poor thing, your one egg, so sorry!
I have done this myself in the winter in my new coat, still smelled like a wet dog after the first wash so I had to re-wash.
I guess your in the market for an egg basket?

Ohh nooo....I've not had this happen to me but I am notorious for putting banty eggs in my pocket and forgetting that I have it there. I am sure its just a matter of time though heh heh....

i went to school with an egg in my pocket.... it didn't crack. i gave it to my band teacher.

Wintertime I have a bad habit of carrying eggs in my coat pocket (of course, when the coat has 6 huge pockets what else are you going to use them for!) So far the only one I've unintentionally broken was actually in my hand -- when I tried to turn a doorknob. But I have to admit, putting one in a pants pocket seems slightly crazy, even to me

(On the other hand, I'd have to scramble one to get it to fit in my pants pocket in the first place. Stupid women's clothing designers :p )

That is so funny because I had the same thing happen this morning. We just got some more chickens yesterday and they had just started laying. This was the first night in our coop and I don't think they were used to roosting. I put them up on the roost last night and during the night (or before I got in there around 6 AM) one had laid an egg on the roost. It fell to the floor, but landed in straw, so it didn't break. I put it in my pocket while I fed them and on the way out of the coop, I bumped the door. CRACK!

Been there, done that. Thank God it was an old chore coat with a hood that I throw on when it gets colder. Its beat but comfortable and you can turn the pockets inside out. Just washed it of with a hose. But there have been close calls with other clothes but no mishaps. I find its more likely to happen when there is one egg vs. multiple ones. Its only one,I'll just put it in my pocket while I do these other things. Oh crap!!!!!!
