Do you think seller should be responsible if...(pics added)

You should always contact the seller to let them at least know there is a problem with the fertility. There is always a chance when shipping eggs and there is really no guarantee the eggs will be fertile. It's the chance you take when you are trying to get what you want. Like a coin toss.

You first notify the seller and let them know of the problem and hopefully they will offer send replacements. Not all will. I have only had 2 incidents where I was disappointed in shipped eggs and one of those people made sure I at least ended up with some chicks after sending 2 sets of replacement eggs. The other person said he would gladly send me more for the same price I paid. But the fault wasn't all his. They where lost in the mail for 2 weeks. Had he provided a tracking number it may not have happened. I felt he should have offered and sent replacements due to the fact that if he had provided a confirmation number I could have tracked them down. I would have been happy to send him the postage for a flat rate box. With using the paypal to print a shipping label the confirmation number is free.

Even when I send out free eggs I include the confirmation number. Nobody wants their eggs lost. We want them as soon as we can get them and with as less stress as possible

They didn't have a guarantee but did state they have 1 roo to 5 hens and fertility is very high. All I did was email them to mention the fertility problem with the pictures and they got back to me within an hour saying they were sorry about the fertility issue and they are going to ship out replacements!

I have purchased Araucana hatching eggs a lot and always been disappointed. I have only ever had one batch hatch. So when I started to sell hatching eggs, I list on my website that my fertility is 90% which is good. I hatch eggs from my pens twice a week, so I know if there are problems with fertility. I want people to be happy with my eggs and buy more. Since my business is mostly word of mouth.

Araucana embryo's are incredibly delicate so I am constantly emailing the people that buy eggs from me to find out " have they hatched yet". LOL

" Have you candled yet". Its important for me to know how the eggs are doing including how many developed, hatched, are tufted, and that sort of thing.

I am glad they sent you more eggs.

im glad they're sending you replacements! just keep in mind - theyre not out there to rip you off, most breeders ive met/bought from would definately right that wrong IF you tell them about it.

Great News! I contacted the seller to let them know. Mainly because a fertility problem needs to be mentioned! They are going to send replacement eggs! I really love it when sellers are great with communication and willing to work with you!

That IS great news.

Some of you must have dealt with reasonable people.
I bought some supposed Naked Neck eggs to try to hatch a roo for my girls.
Well, all VERY porous eggs with NN written on them, only one out of six was fertile and I hatched.....a lovely little yellow chick with thick neck down, which, if I am not greatly mistaken is a Light Sussex!
The seller did not want to know.
May be the last time I buy shipped eggs.

I am glad to hear they are being replaced. That was very nice of the seller.

Good Luck with this batch.

I have gotten eggs before that I swore wasn't fertile myself but, I myself am not brave enough to open them and examine. I was always told and read that there was no possilbe way to tell if they were infertile by cracking them open.

I have to agree, its not the sellers responsibility.. but I also like the fact that she/he is willing to send replacement eggs for the ones that are infertile, I for one have yet to be able to candle any eggs that are known to be infertile until day 5.. when they don't have any development.but I also tell people that if the eggs I send are infertile to let me know..and I will send extra's at no charge. and always try to send extra eggs as it is.. but again I don't take responsibility for mother nature either..

I have had the experience that a batch of eggs was 100% development in my RCOM and the batches on either side were 50% development by buyers' reports. I felt like I couldn't have been so lucky and their experiences so different unless somehow it was impossible to rely on the visual demonstration as discussed previously in pics here.

I don't like to argue, so I offered more eggs- that pleases the customer, so I'm likely to have good reviews by them rather than nasty ones.

Conversely, some VERY well respected breeders have been unwilling to even offer up a discount on future eggs or chicks when I provided pics of what looked like poor or no fertility on the eggs I'd spent a lot of money on from them. I won't be throwing good money after bad, regardless of their reputation, as they simply didn't treat me with the same respect I offer to others.

I won't be reviewing them well when asked, either. Sometimes as a breeder you MUST take the fall if you want to maintain a reputation of a good businessperson. I always abide the rule that a good experience leads a customer to tell 5 people, while a poor experience gets told to at least 10!

Unfortunately there are also those that will readily give bad recommendations when they never spoke to the seller of a problem. They had no idea there was a problem or a chance to make it good. I may speak of a bad experience but I don't mention names. Just because I had a bad experience doesn't mean others have. So why ruin somebody's reputation. I just don't go back for more. I will do business with somebody else.
