Does my duckling have an eye infection?

I have four Pekin/ runner ducklings who are being looked after by a silkie hen. Recently my ducklings have begun to develop dark, matted feathers around their eyes. I'm not sure whether they have an eye infection or if they are simply getting dirty. Please help.

Do they have clean water to dunk their faces in? You may want to post on the duck thread as well.

They have clean water, but it's a little to low for them to dunk their whole face in. I was worried about providing them with a deep water trough because I heard they will swim for too long and chill. Do you think I should let them have supervised swimming?

Yes, supervised swimming would be good. I responded over on the Duck Forum as well - the thread has some information about head washers.
