Does this chick need help?

This egg has pipped and partially zipped but it was getting severely knocked around by the already hatched chicks. It's been this way for awhile and got knocked with the opening pressed against the styrofoam wall. When it got knocked back, this is what it looked like. All the other pipped/zipping eggs have a white, papery membrane while this one looks brown and gummy.

Is this something I should assist with?

Absolutely, help that baby out. Looks like it is stuck. Use tweezers and gently pull off tiny pieces of shell following the zip line. Then moisten the membrane and if the blood veins are gone or really tiny, peel the membrane back over the head and shoulders and put the chick back in the incubator inside the bottom of the egg. If it hasn’t made progress within 30 mins gently push back more of the membrane. I hope the chick is alive and you still have time to save it!!

After 12 hours, wet a q-tip, get tweezers. Take a cm size piece of the shell, add q-tip, take a cm size piece of shell, add q-tip. Wet the q-tip and pat the chick and the inside membrane because it looks stuck. It's really really hard and dangerous to assist in hatching because if the yolk sack hasn't be absorbed yet, your chick will bleed out. If you take too much of the shell, your chick will bleed out. It's a painstakingly slow process

I watched it really closely, I didn't leave the incubator, I basically had my nose pressed against the window and I noticed that it was moving less and less so I boiled a pot of water to steam up the room and got some tweezers and warm water. There was a piece of membrane completely stuck to the chick that was preventing it from turning. Once I moistened that and pulled away a bit of the shell, it pushed out! It's a Polish chick and is doing really well. I'm glad I was watching it, I don't think it would've made it otherwise.

Good job saving the baby!!! I have had a chick with a sticky membrane before and they need a little extra help! So glad you were paying attention and able to save this one!
