Does this hatching egg need intervention?

This is my first ever time hatching chicks and I'm a little worried about this one. So from the reading I've done it seems like this chick has pipped at the wrong side of the egg. It pipped about 24 hours ago and hasn't made a lot of progress. The hole has gotten a little bigger but that's all of the progress it has made in 24 hours between the 2 pictures. To be fair this one pipped on day 20 and today is officially day 21. Anyone have any idea if it's time for me to try to intervene or should I just keep letting nature do it's thing for now?

Yes, help this baby. Gently use tweezers and break off small pieces of shell around the hole, trying not to puncture the membrane. Take off the whole “pointy” end of the egg. Wet down the membrane with warm water or coconut oil. If there are large veins, don’t tear it. But if the veins are mostly absorbed and not visible when wet, gently tear a bit starting where the chick pipped. Try to allow for the head and shoulders to be free. Then put the egg back in the incubator and hopefully the chick can push out on her own.

If at any time blood starts coming out, put cornstarch on that spot and take a break from assisting, placing the egg back in the incubator.

It just popped out! Anyone have any idea if it's looking good? I'm so scared lol

I am just now reading this thread, so congratulations! Is the chick doing ok? I see that you asked it everything looks all right, and, now, I'm curious and invested in this little chick's well-being. :jumpy
It's doing good right now! But it was a struggle for the first few days. I'm not sure if what the picture shows was partially unconsumed yolk sack or what but it was still attached to the egg shell once it hatched and was really weak compared to my other two chickens that hatched half a day later and after observing those other two I can tell that this one really had to fight and struggle to unzip itself. It was really weak for the first 2 days compared to the other ones. It couldn't stand up, looked funky, it didn't eat or drink anything. I really though it wouldn't make it. I sort of let it be day 1 and on day 2 I made some sugar water and started dipping it's beak hoping that it can maybe get a few drops down. It didn't look like it was making any progress and it wasn't really moving on it's own, just laying in a funky position with a leg extended and whenever it tried to get up it kept falling over. I told my wife if it's not looking good in a few more days maybe we should consider culling it instead of letting it struggle, but miraculously on the morning of day 3 it started standing up and taking a few steps on it's own. I kept observing it throughout the day and noticed that it was starting to drink some water and peck at the food and it just kept getting stronger throughout the day. Stronger next day and so on. Now it's looking really well. A little smaller then the other two but chirping, eating, and running around with everyone else! :)

Oh, great news! We are attempting our second hatch. One has hatched today, and we'll be watching for the others to hatch tomorrow and Saturday. The one that just hatched zipped out pretty quickly (maybe two hours,) but it seems somewhat weak. I don't recall our first attempt chicks looking this weak, but I've slept since then. Good luck on your chick adventure!

That’s wonderful! I have two that, while they didn’t have issues hatching, they’re having some of the same issues two weeks later. We’re placing them in cups and doing all of the “things” suggested here. One does seem to be getting stronger, but she just seems to be a natural fighter. Fingers crossed we are able to save both of them!
