Dominique Thread!

My best dom rooster recently had a bout of crop problems. His crop was greatly distended. This morning he passed a huge fecal pellet that was a good 8 inches long and as big around as my thumb. It contained a large amount vegetation. He is now back on feed.

Ok here is the pullet after a day and half being isolated. Her crop has shrunk down to normal size. But I feel that it still hangs down further than normal. Very similar description as what the buffalo gal states. I did give her some oil and soft stuff but mostly she was on water. No vomiting after massaging. I feel it is a disorder. not causing digestion problems just not held up in place causing it to sag. The suggestions were very helpful, Thanks. John

I'd say she looks like she feels better!

Perhaps you should keep her away from long grass for a week or so but slowly return her to regular feed. She probably enjoys all the special attention and treats. I do hope her crop will shrink to a normal size after awhile.

This should be evidence I actually have American dominiques. Cockerol of my breeding. Please proceede to destroy my false image of his perfection.

Tail a little squirrel. Feathers I like, functional as in not a bunch of noodles.

Tail a little pinched, not fan like.

Comb small and tight, spike down turned. Dorsal surface of comb almost entire / few or small protuberences.

Good larteral symmetry of comb and wattles.

I'm curious, how many shots did you have to take to get these great pictures?

I'm not a breeder nor show-er of birds, but that boy is pretty! I like that his saddles and hackles look exactly the same. Very nice symmerty on the waddles. The daddy/granddaddy of many of my birds has rather lopsided wattles. "Black Hawk" is approaching three years old and is very chunky. Solid, not fat. I'm waiting for his grandsons to gain some weight then we're having processing parties.

Guess I failed to say anything negative about your good looking boy. The glowing eyes are extra special, lol.

What is the age? I'm not a judge of chicken flesh but would be proud to own that bird. He looks better than what I have at this point.

Thanks, we have a long way to go. Founding hens all older than hills. Only two of three produced eggs with any hatch at all and then well less than 50%. Daughters and granddaughters holding their own against hatchery strains very well.

Nice chicken! His tail appears to be close to 45 degrees to me. I would say his only weakness is his comb which lacks the small points that should cover it. However, the size & shape of the comb is good. All in all a bird that would make the team here.
