I have 3 Dominique, and I caught one of them in a nesting box with egg on her beak. She left that box, and went to one next to it. I saw the broken egg, and caught her before she could do anything in the other box. Generally, when they leave a box, they don't go to another one, unless looking to either bed down, or find a better place to lay.The Dominique is not without good food, treats, or something to do, other than raid eggs. Their food has calcium in it, but it was not egg shell she was after. As I right this out, she is in 'solitary'. Is there a way to get her to stop short of making her my next meal?

I’ve read somewhere here that people have filled an empty eggshell with mustard or vinegar to give her a bad experience.
I had a couple of close calls where this problem could start, like Shelless egg that broke in the box and another that fell out of the box and broke. I think stuff like this is how it could start and may not be diet related. Edit to add: luckily I got things cleaned up quick.

Might have been animal protein she was after.
Was the shell thin and thus easily broken by being stepped on?

More info would be helpful:
-your coop(size in feet by feet with pics).
-what all and how exactly you are feeding.

Roll out nest boxes help solve egg eating issues too.... if building or buying new nest boxes are an option for you.

While she’s in solitary you might give her a golf ball or fake egg to try to eat and leave her with it for several days... not sure if that’d work but maybe something else to try too.
