It looks like it was a rooster. A very beautiful rooster though.
They say roosters look you in the eye and this one certainly did that sometimes. She/he was very aware of surroundings as well so I think you are right. I did not notice any saddle feathers however but all other signs point to rooster. Those are not allowed in my town so it makes this much simpler!
Thank you

Roosters are very adorable birds. I have a 13 week old Easter egger cockerel and he loves being cuddled. All of my birds stare me straight in the eye, but I just like to think that’s because they think I look wonderful that day.

Lol thats great! Easter Eggers are cute. Yea cuddling was something he loved.

I did suspect it may have been a rooster in progress, I thought TSC did not sell roosters but I am very new to this. The comb and waddle formed more profondly and sooner than all the rest so you could be right.

The 3rd did have feathered feet.
Vent sexing is only 90% accurate on average. Of course it could have been some type of dual purpose that only came straight run too.

He was too young for saddle feathers, but the large comb, wattles and red feathering in the wings all say male. I'm not sure what hybrid he was, or if you can find another, but if you wouldn't mind another black chicken with some red in the hackles and chest look into black sex links. Those would be guaranteed pullets.

I think the bantam red could be a red Cochin.

Ahh okay, good to know. Well in that case I would have had to give him away anyways due to my towns regulations on roosters. I will look i to black sex linked. Thank you!

Hello All,

Hoover hatchery replied and confirmed the chickens as: Asian Black and Red cochin bantam. Still waiting on the last.

Thank you all for you help. I will be looking to purchase these 2 baby chicks if anyone is aware of a reliable source. TCS is an option but may not have these specific breeds.
