When I candled my eggs before lockdown they looked somewhat smaller than i expected them to be. Now it's day 21 and not a bit of action. I kinda figured it would be delayed cuz of the rollercoaster these buggers have been through (temperature problems throughout, power outage, etc. See https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/christmas-hatch-a-long.1205104/page-7 ) but im just wondering if that theory is true? If so, are they ok with the longer lockdown time?

This is the best pic I could get

Oh, boy, those little eggies sure have been through a ride already.

The air cells looks small but you say the embryos did too, so that balances out.

If it was me, I'd maybe keep them at incubation humidity until there's a reason to believe there's at least an internal pip.

I'd also do another quick candle and see where the air cell is now, maybe see if there's any internal pipping going on?

Hello..If humidity is too high they don't loose enough moisture. They week before lock down I candle my eggs and will drop humidity if needed to get the air cells bigger. I do that for a couple of days. Once cells look good I up humidity again and wait till lock down.
How's the hatch doing?

I candled last night and they look like they're starting to fill out better. I didn't think to mark air sac progress - doh. i can do that tonight.

Hi. :frow

So I did a recent hatch where we had a power outage when I wasn't home and eggs were 78 degrees when power returned.

Yes, they hatched a few hours later than expected. But it was also my worst hatch ever with 5/11 hatching. At first I thought there was a toe or two missing. But once they got their land legs I saw it was curved toes on a couple. Really I was surprised anything hatched. But dismayed that my birds could be throwing hidden faults even though I worked hard to get good stock and ensure my nutrients aren't diminished by treats.

Anyways, I had to cull one (not with curled toes) that wasn't thriving instead of letting it die slowly.Must have been internal issues. In my research to find out what happened, all signs point to my temperature fluctuation, which I think happened midway through incubation (but didn't write it down). My point being, deformities might happen. :hmm

Also, seems like your temp might be low or your humidity too high. Do you know where you have those points set at? Maybe try a dry or semi dry hatch in the future?

Hope it comes along well! :fl :jumpy
