Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Hi and good morning
i tried to post at 4 this morning, but my computer would not accept my password.
thanks for all the birthday good wishes.
even from a couple of lurkers. come on in and join the conversations.
i did enjoy the supper ., had bbq ribs. have lots of left overs. too much cake.
all the goings on wore this old man out.

Lisa, did you get the deck stained?
I did, but I'm paying for it now. My back was giving me grief yesterday, and now it's nearly impossible to even move. I finally got all my critters fed. Took a long time. Got to stop every few steps and sit down to moan and groan. Decided to do nothing today but ice it and hang on the inversion table every hour. Not even sure I can even ride my bike or not. Glad the deck is done. I still gotta paint some spots. Hopefully tomorrow.

Lisa, is your back feeling better today?

Chick drama continued yesterday. The good news is: the bullied girl now realizes she is safe if she runs to me and perches on my shoulder or knee.

Yesterday was the first time all the little girls were outside (intentionally), first by themselves and later with the adults. Turns out Theodora can't intimidate mature hens -- which she found out quite quickly. For while, she was too busy protecting herself to bother poor Gwendolyn.

Well, don't I have egg on my face! The reason Theodora won't leave Gwendolyn alone is because "she" is a rooster! I just heard weak little crowing coming from the coop.

I kind of almost suspected it, but McMurray has a 96 percent success rate in sexing chickens (or so they say!).

And, I have a Buckeye hen who is huge, has massive spurs and a large red comb and wattles. But, she's definitely a layer.

I did not want anymore roosters. Crap!!

Barb, you can call the new rooster
Mc4percent.
Last night I worked in the shed until after 8PM
while I was out there a deer was snorting at me from under the apple tree.
tonight I quit at 7PM.
I am making a detachable motor mount for the newly found grinder.the motor has no mounting bracket so I am improvising.
the squash are just starting to be squashes
and just about overnight, I have mushrooms growing in the tomato beds. just in the two beds with wood chips as the bottom layer.
I wonder if they are edible ? I took pictures.

I've had enough of this hot weather. No rain either, so I gotta water stuff. Not much left in the garden. The cucumbers have decided they had enough. My two tomato plants aren't setting any new fruit. The squash and mini pumpkins are coloring up good. Time to move onto fall.
