I'm curious whether any of you have noticed that some of the brands of dried mealworms say "for wild birds only." I've been feeding my chickens mealworms as a winter treat for a long time, but the package I just picked up says "for wild birds only." I'll probably contact the manufacturer to find out why, but was curious if anyone on the list knows any reason why they might just be for wild birds (ie what the mealworms were fed?).

Thanks!

I think they are packaged for wild birds in the wild bird section because most people dont shop for chickens in the wild bird food section. Just like the wild bird seed says for wild birds only, well I use that as scratch for my chickens because there is more variety. It is more like a disclaimer, so you can not take them to court because you fed your chickens wild bird seed as feed and didnt sustain them. Hope that made sense. I use the dried meal worms mixed in with the seed and I get the suet nuggets that they sell now and mix it all up and they love it. Yes my chickens are spoiled.

Thanks! I suddenly got concerned thinking that maybe it was like some of the odd food things that are OK fed to wild animals, but not for human consumption. But really--mealworms eat meal and veg. It's not like they could be feeding them something else, right?
