Hi,

I am new to the forum and i want to introduce you one of the breeds of my land, Catalonia.

This breed is called Catalana del Prat, and it's native of one region near Barcelona.

Race dates back to the nineteenth century and according to some theories are the result of crossing native hens with heavy asian hens like Cochin.

In 1984 he joined a batch of 200 roosters and hens in the poultry section of the Institute of Food Research and Technology (IRTA), with the aim of improving the breed and its production parameters, increasing egg laying hens and roosters weight.

Hens can lay 200 eggs per year and are good incubators, began to lay about 18 weeks.

Roosters grow quickly, taking a 5 lb live weight in 14 weeks. And had a conversion rate about 3,5:1

This breed is very rustic and are good foragers.

In Catalonia they are a very popular breed for caponize.

The flavor of the meat is excellent and similar to game bird, and stand to have blue feet.
