So I have this male duck who was born with a bunch of chickens we hatched him together in the hatchery. And then we hatched a bunch of ducks and our duck chicken doesn't like hanging out with the others we have 5 males and 5 females altogether. They have been fighting but they do okay together. Will he ever choose a female?

Are the ducks still housed with the chickens?? It’s very dangerous to keep male ducks with chickens, especially with only a 1:1 ratio.

He may need some time to get used to his ducky friends. I had 2 loner ducks who needed over a month hanging out with the other ducks and only the other ducks before they made any friends.

It’s the female who chooses the male. The male may have a favorite, but it’s very typical to see 1 male with multiple females. 1 of my boys have 6-7 girls that have chosen him.

Speaking of.. You say they do okay, but you will need to watch close and make sure the boys aren’t too much for the girls. Males that aren’t chosen / have too few females are more likely to be aggressive, overmate, injure, and possibly kill females. Don’t be surprised if you need to separate or rehome some boys.
