Hello,

I’m from the Netherlands.
A little more than three weeks ago the duck who breeded in my mums garden got attacked. One egg of nine survived. I heard a story of some one hatching an egg by a warmth lamp. So we took it home, I candled it and it moved, looked like 13 days old, veins visable, big spot moving, definitely out of the spider shaped phase. We kept the egg on 37 degrees celsius / 100 Fahrenheit.
We kept it moistured wit spraying and airing three times a day and two times a day a new moistered towel underneath the nest.
A week later our egg definitelymade progress. Today the egg is at least 29 days.
It’s been under temperature for two times 2 hours (the day we found it and a power problem 1,5 week ago)
I candled it nine days ago: no movement at all.
Six days ago: Very small movement, it could even be because I candled it.
Three days ago: no movements, but a little are bubble appeared. I was hoping it would be the duckling had made a try to pip and maybe only got through the membrane?
Today: No movement.
The egg smells nice (like hay), not stinky at all. Colors by candling seem fine, but development I don’t see.
What to do? Should I make a little airhole in the new aircell? Maybe the duckling it having trouble pipping? Or should I just stop it. Or give it more time?

Since the egg should be hatching I would try water candling to check for movement. Using a light can be useless at this stage. The egg is probably dead but you can't be too careful.

Make sure there are no pips/cracks in the shell and use body temp water, here is a video:

Hmm do you see any clear blood vessels?

I've heard the water trick doesn't always work so I wouldn't give up quite yet.

Pictures are always harder to judge than seeing the egg in person. I'm not seeing blood vessels (sometimes difficult to see in pictures) but it does appear to have a nice rosy glow to it so perhaps there is still hope. When my eggs quit the blood vessels break down and the parts not being filled up with the chick start to go from that nice healthy rosy color to more of a yellow looking color.

I'd give the egg more time, it doesn't look quite ready to hatch yet to me from the pictures if it is still alive. I doubt you'll have an exploding egg on your hands as long as it continues to smell alright.

Good luck!

Thanks. We placed the egg back, already saying goodbye, but not ready to let go.
There are still bloovessel to see. Also the egg shell is getting thinner.
It’s so weird, it doesn’t seem to do anything anymore, but it also doesn’t change color or start starts to smell.
Than we will hopefully give it a little longer!

The blood vessels are definitely a good sign!

Some babies just move less than others especially as they near the end of incubation, I hope this is the case with your little one! :fl

Today was the day we decided that it took too long. We did open the egg carefull at the aircell side. Air popped out immediately and inside was only thick reddish and blackish fluids. So apparently it was death for a while. Still not very stinky, but the smell inside also wasn’t great.
So weird that the color with lightcandling kept being allright and the veins didn’t disappear.
Nowever, the end of our duck adventure... 😢

Aww I'm so sorry it didn't make it. It was so nice of you to give it a chance. :hugs
