Sorry about this...

This is a question I had that was a follow up reply on a similar question on another thread. But it was unanswered, and the followup second question was different than the first one.

So I'm putting this up differently, hoping someone can answer it. Here goes;

So I wanted to ask how long duck hens can store and use the drake's sperm in their bodies for laying eggs? (Non-mammals often do this way differently than mammals. And initially I'd thought that ducks would be more like mammals where one mate equals one fertilized egg. But many animals don't do this. Fish for example, the male fish sprays his sperm over dozens or hundreds of eggs in one shot, fertilizing all at once. Honey bees also are different where they mate once and then the queen is fertile for life.)

Someone did reply and said that chickens when they mate, the hen will store the sperm in her body up to 14 days.

But is that similar for ducks, and for other birds?

And with both types of birds, chickens and ducks I assume that would mean all eggs up to the 14th day would be fertile? (Although age would probably decrease that ratio, etc, and other variables.)

I would think most water fowl would be more similar to ducks. And I'm curious how it would be for them. (And would geese be more similar to ducks on this?)

How long does a duck stay fertile for after a mate? And how long do they store the sperm?

This question would affect a lot of us and is a key principal to need to know if you are selling 'fertile' eggs also it seems for any of us. Thanks.
