Duck Eggs vs Chicken Eggs

Agreed about duck eggs being dirtier than chickens eggs and the ducks eggs do have a thicker shell. My ducks lay anywhere from behind a board, along the fence, by a flower pot, or in one of the shelter (my ducks free range). My pekin started laying at 4 - 4 1/2 months. My muscovy ducks aren't laying but now most likely won't until spring, they are 6 months.

I didn't think mine would either but at least Minnie shocked me. Mine free range during the day and are shut in the coop at night to stay warm since I live in Vermont and it's pretty cold and snowy now. So far I have gotten one egg a day for the last four days from one of my girls. The others aren't laying yet.

So I have the same question.... I have two Pekin ducks and have gotten the eggs on the left in the last two days. They feel more waxy, were pretty dirty, and have been laid on the ground in places the chooks usually don't lay. A few of yesterday's chicken eggs on the right for comparison. They're all of similar size.
