At first he was fat and I noticed he began to walk less willingly. I thought he was just overweight. A couple of days later I saw him fall over, and I picked him up and saw he was very skinny. I brought him in the house. It has now been several days (4-5) and he is no better and no worse.

- He cannot stand up as he promptly falls over backwards or sideways.
- He cannot stay upright in the water but falls sideways, which leads to his swimming in circles on his side. (He's not that upset about it, and he will preen in this position).
- His legs seem strong and he can stand if I hold his balance.
- If I hold him in my arms and tip him side to side and front to back, his head maintains perfect position without moving.
- He will occasionally drink a sip but mostly he doesn't eat or drink so I am tube feeding him.

I tube fed him because he was so lightweight. The first day I added molasses in case this was botulism. After that I added extra B vitamin in case that was the issue. He is strong, occasionally drinks a sip, does not eat, and seems in good spirits. His waste seems to be normal, no unusual color or odor.

Have you tried some straight Nutridrench Poultry vitamins? Give a little plain water afterwards to wash it down... could be late onset wry neck or might be neurological...

So far I have tried a three-pronged approach. First I gave him 24 hours of molasses water to clean him out in case it was botulism.

Then I gave him vitamin B for several days and now am alternating the B complex with a multivitamin.

I also figured out, after a few days, that perhaps he needed ballast to swim upright... and perhaps that if he lacked grit, he could have something stuck in his gizzard. So I supplemented his tube feeding with a small amount of grit.

The grit seemed to help - he now swims upright and balances better front to back. He mostly eats on his own. He can stand, but falls over often and can't walk well. He is strong and stands on his feet for long periods, but does not have the coordination to walk.

Progress is slow but steady, so I am hopeful.

@Fire Ant Farm , can you help this person? I think they should just wait.

Alas, I don't know duck hatching (except that I've heard that EVERYTHING takes longer and they should wait)... And I never assist my own, so I'm not a super person to ask... I think @WVduckchick knows hatching stuff - maybe tag her in that thread? (Was that posted in Lucky's thread?)

I really have no idea what's going on there, seems like you are trying all the right stuff. But while watching the vid, i was wondering if the duck can hear? Both ears? Like in humans, balance can be affected by lack of hearing. Just a thought...
