Hello There!
I have multiple questions and I am not sure where else to look!
I can find plenty of information on chicken genetics but not as much on ducks. At what point can you run into issues with fathers breeding daughters, brother sister, etc? I have a trio of Cayuga (1 drake, 2 hens) and I hatched 2 of their eggs. They are 4 week old and eventually I will add them to my trio. Will I have to worry about genetics if I hit they jackpot and they are both female and breeding to dad? (They are just starting to not peep, and are not fully feathered yet. I am still nervous about vent sexing no matter how much youtube I watch.)
I have 6 new ducklings from this trio that I'd love to keep, but again worry about genetics. I will be bringing them to a farm sale (local, small). They will only be a few days old, and I wonder what everyone is charging? Large scale hatcheries are charging $10-$15 for backyard duck, not exhibition. Do my prices need to be lower because I am hatching at home? (I was thinking $10, but minimum of 2 duck purchase. I worry about people thinking just one duckling is acceptable.)
Thank you for reading my long, drawn out thoughts!
*Eventually I will be be expanding. Adding a bachelor pad, and second duck run etc. But it's hard to financially swing at this moment. People have gone bananas for the birds this year!*
