Does anyone use leg bands on their ducks and if so does can anyone tell me what type and sizes you use? Are there any that can go on a day-old and remain on a full grown adult without having to switch out bands?

protodon - I have used split aluminum bands, the plastic bandettes, plastic spiral bands and ordinary zip ties. If you have a small number of birds you want to keep track of, I would use the zip ties, they are easy to get and cheap.

The only one I have ever had problems with are the plastic spiral bands. In my links page I have a listing of some of the poultry/waterfowl identification links. They will give you the size recommendations based on the birds you raise.

I have those clip together bands on my ducks,i was going to use zip ties but decided against it, so for my three 'bantam' mallards i used the 16mm diameter clip on ones, and i actually have my phone number in permanant marker written on them, just incase someone finds them if they do a houdini and escape.

I used some zip ties and after about 10 days the ducks still occasionally peck at them. I put them on loose so they can slide easily without coming off (what could fall over those big feet??) But one of the zip ties came off. I worry because that tie is somewhere out in the duck yard and I would hate for one of my birds to eat it and choke.

I got some of those metal bands but I don't know how to put them on. Do I need a special tool? Or what?
