Duck pond filtration advice?

I'm going to keep looking, I know for a fact we grow Barley in S.A. it's just to find a farmer that bales the fodder. I'm guessing I would probably only need 1x 20kg bale but would have to see how it goes. I had the eco system perfectly balanced for a few weeks and then the tadpoles grew up and moved off :lol: so back to square one. We also have alot of regulations not permitting the raising of tilapia privately. So it's a pain.

Yes! I bought a sand swimming pool filter. The hardest part was adapting the connections to the pond but fortunately pvc parts are inexpensive. I'd do it a little different if I did it again but it saves me a ton of labor and my newest additions love playing in the rapids the filter creates!
Great to hear is working. How often do you need to clean? (Considering same setup myself.)

@barbaraTee
The sand filter I had, I used to filter my swimming pool. The pool was 15 foot diameter. It was used by people, not ducks. The dirt was tracked in by feet and all the dust, and whatever else. Every week I would clean it by what is referred as back flushing. I switched the hoses connected to the pump manually so the flow was reversed in the filter. The water coming out at first was kind of cloudy and with particles in it. I just let it flow onto my lawn. You may want to capture into a bucket and dispose it whatever method you want. I think using it in a garden would be beneficial as fertilizer, or just on your lawn. When water ran clear, I stopped . The filter came with those directions on how to clean it. I don't know which filter you will get, but just follow their directions for cleaning. I think a weekly cleaning will give you a good idea on how often it needs to be serviced.:)

Thanks for the reply :D Am curious as to how much duck-muck one of the sand filters could hold. Weekly cleaning, just for people, doesn't sound like much. Hmmm....I may have to do a barrel system.

I’m really interested @cavemanrich. You don’t by change have any pictures of your set up do you? I’m a visual learner. I’m pretty sure we have our filter system from when we had a pool.

I do not have a pond set up at current time. You may read the postings by @egraham . Also solved the algae problem. Is using a sand filter. Maybe egraham can post some pictures.

Curious what you would do differently? Also, any pics? Thanks!

My friend you have embarked on one heck of a journey! When it comes to pond filtration vs. duck muck and DIY can be a challenge. I spent the majority of this summer in a trial and error madness trying to get a efficient system. With a little luck and some hard work I finally succeeded. I’ll send you pictures of my design tomorrow in hopes it will inspire some ideas :)
