Here is a link to what my duck has been doing.
Please let me know if that link does not work.
He is a 7 year old mallard.
I had noticed over the weekend he was not eating as much as usual, was not quacking so much, and just seemed a bit off. He was also starting to lose feathers. I made an appointment to check him out at the nearest appointment, later this week. This morning when I let the two ducks out, he had trouble coming out of thr cage, he just kept cocking his head right and spun I'm circles if he got up. He can stumble around and so far is not super weak but he has trouble eating and drinking, and isn't able to do much more than go in circles. His bill is chattering nonstop. In only 24 hours he has lost a good deal of weight. I took him to the vet as an emergency and the are an exotic avian vet but they were not too sure about what was going on. They guessed a neurological condition or a poisoning, and he is being tested for bacteria as well and have sent him home with antibiotics and some pain meds (Metacam and Clavamox) while we wait for results. In the meantime I am also giving him Vitamin E, Selenium, and B Vitamin Complex for a similar looking wry neck syndrome.
He still has a lot of strength, fighting me giving him his oral meds, but I will have to force him to eat so that may not last long. It also seems to be blind in his left eye, or just not respond to water or peas on that side.
At the vet I opted out of a scan for metal bits but was misunderstood in that I wanted blood testing for zinc/lead poisoning and did not notice til I got home that they did not do that. I am wondering about going back to get that done?
Can I ask for any other pieces of wisdom, experience, or advice?
