Ducklings died after drinking water

If they were deprived water for some period they will gorge on the water. This can kill them by lowereing body temp or electrolyte imbalance. Other poultry dont drink that much water so it does not happen. Siezing is the typical symptom followed shortly with death.
I absolutely agree. If I transport even adult ducks I take either water melon rind, canteloups and or tomatoes and pulse them in a processor until like a chunky salsa, but I chill it while getting crate ready and birds loaded, no mater if bator is or adults, and take a gallon zip lock for new "mom" to offer birds a little after they get settled down in new home. I suggest offering this for 10 minutes, take away 15 minutes, offer again for a few minutes for first hour. Then leaving some in regular chick waterer (if babies) or regular water device so they can I'd it and the salsa slows consumption down and helps them transition with stress in new home as well as see new "mom" as the treat giver as I was. Tragic yes and I'm sorry. They get this if it's only a 15 minute ride. They drink so much it goes to their lungs and much quicker death than electrolyte inbalance, if it's any solace to you. The sudden death is the drowning. With all the crazy weather and temps/rain all over the place I bet your other babies you did this with successfully were either born a little earlier when it was cooler, or these had been in a restricted area and you let them at the water on hottest part of the day and previous clutches you watered earlier in cooler part of day. A older hen, say 3, will clutch later near summer since she's getting a better sense of the weather patterns and wants to avoid flooding. Just my o servant ion of my ducks and the wild ones

I just had this same problem. Water was room temp, I kept in a container so it wouldn't be cold, weren't out of water long at all and now I have 3 ducklings dead. All seized up and died within less than an hour of watering

I am so sorry! :hugs I have seen this many times in my own flock. If ducklings are allowed to drink too much cool water too quickly, they start to walking oddly and unless you get them warm quickly, they die.

Hi, i need some answers/ help. I had 5 beautiful ducklings that were hatched by one of my ducks about a week ago. They were all healthy happy and showed no signs of illness. 20 minutes ago I watered them and when I came back 2 were dead and 2 more are seizing and dying.

I don't know what I did wrong as I've done it the same way many times before raising my birds with no issue.

I'm absolutely devestated and shocked at how fast things deteriorated. Literally in a matter of minutes.

Any input at all is appreciated.
i have same issue if you got solution plz inform me

Did you read the whole thread?
The prevention is:
Dont let them run out of water, never give cold water.
The solution is:
If ever they do run out, the water MUST be warm, or it can kill them.
if they run out of water on cold or hot days that giving them water that is less than 102 degrees can kill them. :hit The first sign that this is happening is they will start to stagger like they are drunk. If you can catch them at this stage, and get them warmed up, it is possible to save them.

I am having similar issues- second hatch, this happened last time and we managed to save one but lost another. One is seizing at this moment

I was out of the house and they didn't have water all morning- gave them a warm bath and now one is seizing

Did you give them warm water when you realized they had run out?
