Ducks and Amoxicillin dosage

@casportpony
Goobie's foot is looking good. I've been picking the scab, flushing it out with the diluted betadine, packing it with triple antibiotic ointment, and rewrapping it about every 3 days. Most of the swelling has gone down and it looks waaay better than I thought it would when I checked it yesterday. And he's almost back up at normal weight. :)

But the bad news is, I just noticed that he has bumble foot on his other foot. :( I don't know when that started, but I was noticing that it was kind of warm and I saw the lump from the top of his foot when he was standing (It's on his middle toe joint). So yesterday I picked the scab and a bunch of liquid came out. I had to soak it with Epsom salt to get the rest of the pus. So I got that taken care of and now he has 2 wrapped feet (poor guy). I feel like all I'm doing is poking at him and shoving things down his throat. :/

So I've been giving him 3 amoxicillin capsules a day like you said, and that's only enough for 10 days (yesterday was day 7). I'm thinking about getting another bottle and going 14 days. What do you think? I'm just wondering what would be enough to cover him and what would be too much...

And also, I think I'm going to get some ducky boots to protect his feet because I'm worried about it coming back with the way he walks... They are designed for bumble foot and kill bacteria. They have closed toe and open toe designs for both ducks and chicken. I think I'll get the open toe so he can swim once he's healed up. I'd get this color so it's more natural looking (brightly colored ones might attract predators).

Kathyyyy!! Goobie had a really bad fever last night... :hit I think he's struggling with infection. He felt very warm on his bill and feet, and he was panting really bad (it wasn't even hot in the garage). I didn't know what else to do but wrap him in a wet towel and put a fan by him. This morning he felt better, but after I took the fan away, he felt warm again. I've been using the fish mox, but I don't think it's working. :(

Should I up the dosage? Or change antibiotic? I want to get Trimethoprim Sulfa (what my vet uses), but you have to get it approved by a vet and it will take time to get here... Does fish sulfa work the same??

My vet prescribed 1/4 tablet of Trimethoprim Sulfa (480mg) every 12 hours for both Igor and Gucky (Welsh Harlequins). Goobie is about twice their size. Does it have to go by exact weight? This is 960mg:

Ya know what, I'll just mix half a capsule with a bit of water and use a small 1 ml syringe... That should work. :)
im wondering how that worked out for your duck, i have a chicken im wanting to dose, i have 500 mg caps and could divide by weight on a gram scale.. im aware this is an older post, im mostly curious what you ended up dosing him at & how it worked out?
We just lost our last pet duck a few months ago, he was almost 11 years old.. hope yours is doing well..i sure miss my guy..
