I have a Pekin pair and have just moved a large corner bath into their run as a pond, I was wondering if I put some goldfish in their would the ducks eat them?

I know wild ducks eat fish but it may be different for domestic

Thanks :)

i was wondering the same thing!
i might be gettin some mallard/pekin ducklings and i know someone i can get $1 per dozen lil goldfish babies. wouldnt mind having em live in the duckpond :) .....once i make the duckpond lol

Yes you defiantly can give them goldfish as a treat. Just make sure you buy the feeders from a reputable place. If the tanks they come from are dirty and have lots of dead fish floating around I would not advise buying from there. Eating live food can still pass on illnesses and parasites to the duck.

ahh i see. makes sense.
so rather then raising goldfish in the duck pond it would probably be better to raise them in a seperate pond and feed to the ducks.
oooh! i could raise the goldfish in the same pond as duckweed :D hahaha i could call it the snack pond ;)

I don't know that you need to raise them in a seperate pond. Maybe keep them in a quarantine tank for a little bit. see how they do. I found a lot of my goldfish died when placed into my pond. Of course I think it's the incredibly hard water we have. THey can only go so long before they can't take it anymore. Hopefully the ducks will get them first. ;)

Thanks for all the replys it seems by reading they do eat them

I probly wasn't clear enough and I was wanting to keep the gold fish in the pond as pets

Once they are over 6 inches they are a lot less likely to get eaten by ducks but that takes awhile to achieve.

i think that goldfish are a pretty good idea... muscovies will eat goldfish, mine does when he gets the chance, but i don't know about pekins. i have heard that you are supposed to put goldfish in horse waterers because they will eat the dirt, grass, and hay that the horses drop in the water. it may work for ducks, too...
