Early signs of dry fowl pox - looking for added advice (like should I quarantine?)

@Wyorp Rock & @Eggcessive - Thank you both so so much!

Already got the scab off and the wound treated. Saw a little of that white pus stuff inside (but not much) and got out what I can. Treated with Betadine and Neosporin.

Oh, and yes, it was a little on the softer side? A bit hard to tell since the scab is hard and the swollen wattle itself is very puffy & soft.

So relieved about the fowl pox false alarm. I'm sure she'll be happy about the end of quarantine!

Sorry about the blurry photos. She doesn't want me anywhere near her wattles now.

Final Update: Leslie is fully healed! It took a couple days for the swelling to go away. I noticed last night (when checking them on their roosts) that her scab came off.

Thanks again so much for the help! Thanks to you all, I was able to act fast and get her healed up quick before the infection got worse.

There's a tiny off-colored spot, so I'll be keeping an eye on it to make sure that goes away soon.

Looks good!
Thank you for the update.

Not about Leslie (she's still bump-free and doing great) but I wanted to share that two more hens have the same thing Leslie did.

On November 6th, I found that Helga has two pus filled bumps and two separate tiny scabs on her left wattle.

Today I found a hen in my other flock, Tilly, has a couple pus bumps too and a scab mark.

I'll be treating them with Betadine and will keep an eye out to make sure they don't get infected like Leslie's did. And of course, keep an eye out for anyone else developing these.

I've sprayed permethrin, so I've only been seeing small numbers of mosquitoes (so few I can count them) rather than the huge clouds that were around before. But it also rained yesterday, so that definitely makes things a bit problematic. I might start applying Vaseline to combs & wattles in hopes of preventing this as best as I can.

Oh dear, yes, it looks like it may be Fowl Pox.
It's turned warm here, back in the 80s so the bugs are in full force once again it seems.

Hopefully they will heal with no issues.

@Wyorp Rock Thank you. I'll be continuing my care and extra watchful eye over them.

Should I consider using one of these:

3/4ths of my flock are now showing symptoms.

Saturday morning I found several more with bumps, including Leslie. Strange she's been bump-free this whole time after that first initial bump. She was clear for over a week. Now she has about 3 tiny ones on the other wattle.

This morning I woke up to three of my Crevecoeurs (Mim, Alice, & Yzma) each with their left eyes closed. Bumps formed there overnight...

In fact, it's weird it seems very left-biased. Everyone who has been getting it has it primarily on the left side of their body. Left eye, left wattle... only a few of the worse has it on both.

Like Mim has it on both eyes. I brought her in so I can make sure she gets plenty of water and food. I'll be trying to keep them clean with saline and neosporin. I hope they heal up fast. I feel so sad seeing them like this. They just started being unable to see because their molts brought their trimmed crests back (they are due for a big trim) and now their eyes are like this.

They do crack their eyes open from time to time, but it seems like it must hurt. They won't do it for long.

She doesn't want me taking pictures, so they turned out kind of bad.

Peaches has it on her beak between her nostrils. Looks worse from the front, but from the side her nostrils look clear and she's breathing fine. So it's more like a mass on top of the beak. Will be bringing her in to trim her and treat her. I think it's been there a couple days and I didn't notice it at first. Ugh...

Poor things!

Those medications will treat bacterial infections, but Fowl Pox is viral.

You can sanitize the water to help reduce the spread just a little.

Chicken Chick has instructions on how to sanitize the water using either Iodine or Oxine.

Okay, thank you @Wyorp Rock, I appreciate the info! I saw something about a medicine for keeping secondary infections at bay, so I was considering one of those for that purpose. However, for now, I'll just try the idoine or oxine in the water. Really afraid of wet fowl pox happening, so that sounds like the best next step to take.

Right now they're using the stainless steel dog bowls for waterers because I can bring those in several times a day and wash in really hot water or run in the dishwasher to keep them sanitized (much easier than keeping my large 4 gallon buckets with cups clean).

I'll keep this post updated if anything significant occurs.

Just wanted to update that everyone is hanging in there so far. My three girls with the lesions around their eyes are clearing up.

However, Gaz, who only had a bulge on her beak for several days now, had her right eye severely swollen yesterday morning. Looks like she might've scratched at it too, because the bump below her eye was bleeding. I flushed it a total of 5 times yesterday with saline and applied Neosporin. By the end of the day, she was finally able to crack her eye open.

Today she's got her eye open again first thing in the morning, so that's good. But it's still very swollen and now has foam coming from her eye. I'm still keeping it clean again.. I'm hoping this subsides quickly for her. I'm not quite sure what else I should do for her. It looks so terrible.

Note: some of the yellow on her beak is raw egg I gave her. But she does have a lot of pussy substance and scabbing on her face.
